After the project ends, you are entering the next phase in ERP Implementation Life Cycle. Some call it Operation and Maintenance phase. It begins with the operation period in which the organization stabilizes and then into the maintenance stage in which patches, fixes, enhancements, and updates take place. Because of our fast-changing technology landscape, the lifespan of a system typically lasts between two and three years until a major upgrade is recommended.
Stabilization is normally between three and nine months. Most likely the project team will not return to their regular jobs full-time even after go live because there is still so much to do.
During this time you will normally experience the followings.
Most ERP systems do not reveal their value until after organizations have had them running for some time. Team members should return to the initial business case rationale and expected benefits and measure the ROI against baseline performance metrics to show the value of the ERP implementation.
