Definition of Advanced Supply Chain Planning and Process Chains in it

The emergence of the concept of Advanced Supply Chain Planning was triggered because of the awareness of the presence of cheap, fast, and also quality products. Now, by utilizing the use of increasingly sophisticated technology, companies can run the supply chain concept more optimally. This of course will make it easier for the company to achieve its stated goals.

For this reason, the supply chain mechanism is considered to play an important role in a company because it can support the process of running their business. This mechanism can connect all parties concerned in the process of changing raw materials into finished materials more optimally. The following will describe the understanding and process of the chain that takes place in the concept of advanced supply chain planning.

Definition of Advanced Supply Chain Planning

Advanced supply chain planning can be interpreted as a series of activities in which there are processes of coordination, scheduling, controlling, and also managing raw material procurement, production, inventory, and delivery of products or services to customers by utilizing the use of technology so that it can be optimized.

Supply chain is a complete cycle chain starting from supplying raw materials obtained from suppliers, continuing to operational / production activities in the company, and shipping products / services to consumers.

This mechanism can also be interpreted as a total approach system in order to be more efficient in the distribution of products / services to end consumers by utilizing current information technology advancements. This mechanism is considered to be able to better coordinate all elements of the supply chain compared to traditional logistics systems.

Thus this supply chain can be interpreted as a mechanism that is better than the traditional logistics system so that it can connect all parties involved in the process of changing raw materials into finished materials more optimally.

Chain Processes That Occur in Advanced Supply Chain Planning

Chain 1: Supplier

This is the beginning of the network in advanced supply chain planning. The supplier acts as the first material supplier, where the supply chain will begin. The first material referred to here can be in the form of raw materials, merchandise, and also spare parts.

Chain 1-2: Supplier-Manufacturer

Manufacturer is the party that acts as a supplier link which is the first chain. Manufacturers are also referred to as plants, assemblers, and fabricators. Manufacturers carry out the work of making, fabricating, assembling, and also finishing goods. The relationship between the first chain (supplier) and also the second chain (manufacturer) can actually open up opportunities to save operating costs in the company. Even the savings made can reach 40-60%.

Chain 1-2-3: Supplier-Manufacturers-Distributor

After the manufacturer completes its work and produces finished goods, then they will distribute it to the customers. Actually there are many ways that can be done by companies in delivering finished goods to customers. However, usually the way taken is to distribute the finished goods through distributors.

The chain process that generally occurs here is that goods produced by manufacturers are distributed to distributors or traders in large quantities. Only after that, the distributor will distribute the finished goods to retailers and retailers.

Chain 1-2-3-4: Supplier - Manufacturer - Distributor - Retail Outlet

Goods that already exist on the part of distributors or wholesalers will usually be stored in the warehouse they have. They will first hoard goods before they are distributed to retailers / retail outlets.

Chain 1-2-3-4-5: Supplier-Manufacturer-Distributor-Retail Outlet-Customer

In this chain, the finished goods are already at the retail outlets and they will then offer the finished goods to the buyers. Actually the supply chain does not end here because the new chain actually stops after the item reaches the real customers.

Thus the description of the understanding of Advanced Supply Chain Planning and the chain process contained therein. This mechanism connects all parties involved in the process of changing raw materials into finished goods by involving parties such as suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, retail outlets, and also customers so as to create an interconnected chain pattern.
